Q. I’ve never used a gun before. Which course should I start with?
A. We offer several courses of instruction for the beginner. We recommend that you take Initial Steps to Gun Ownership or The NRA Pistol Simulation Course coupled with our Basic Pistol Course (2Day).
Q. Do I need my own gun to take one of your courses?
A. No. Optimum Defense Services has guns available for our students to rent. Contact us for details.
Q. Do you have “Women Only” courses?
A. Yes. We offer all of our courses in a “Female Only” environment. If you do not see the course listed as “female only” contact us and let us assist you.
Q. Do you do training for big groups or companies?
A. Optimum Defense Services can offer any of our course to groups or companies. We can also customize a training course to meet your needs.
Q. Can you customize training for individual group needs?
A. Yes. Contact Optimum Defense Services with your idea and let us build a course for your group.
Q. Should I bring my own firearm to training?
A. We recommend that you train with your firearm to build your confidence for the real world. If you do not have a firearm, Optimum Defense Services can rent you one. Contact us for details.
Q. How big are your classes?
A. Are maximum class size is 18 students.
Q. Is there an age requirement?
A. There is no age requirement but juveniles will be required to have their parents written permission prior to any instruction. We encourage that one of the parents take the course with their juvenile.
Q. Do you offer a South Carolina Concealed Weapons permit course?
A. Yes. Optimum Defense Services Inc offers the SC CWP course for $100. This fee does not cover the $50 processing fee that you will be required to pay to the State Law Enforcement Division.
Q. How should I dress?
A. We recommend that you dress comfortable in range clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. Some of our courses are extremely dynamic and involve a lot of shooting. We strongly encourage you to wear comfortable close toed shoes, long sleeve shirts with collars and pants.
Q. Are the classes inside or outside?
A. All of our courses are 2 days long and have both inside and outside training blocks. Most inside training blocks will be inside of a climate controlled classroom.
Q. I have a lot of experience with firearms, do I need to take basic courses to start?
A. If you have confidence in your abilities and skill sets, you are safe in your weapons handling, you do not have to take a basic course unless you feel as if you could use a solid refresher. Remember, never stop learning!
